This image was taken at the end of a very long day. We started our morning at about 4 a.m to get to the airport for our flight to Utah. After the 4 hour flight to Salt Lake City, a 3 hour drive to camp in Torrey, Utah, and then a 90 minute drive to Devil's Garden, I was pretty much toast. I saw this composition when I was here the year before but lighting conditions weren't optimal and we had other plans for sunset that day. I was convinced that I was going to strike out with any color in the sky since a passing storm left heavy low lying clouds on the distant horizon. Just before the sun had completely set, it managed to peak out of the very bottom of the cloud cover and lit the sky up nicely for about one minute. I was pretty happy to walk away with a decent photo on the first day of our trip. It took a little bit of pressure off of me for the rest of our week. After driving back to camp, we found our favorite burger place was closed but we did manage to find some food across the street and treated ourselves to some terrific ice cream.
