I just recently spent 3 days backpacking in Grand Staircase Escalante and decided to stop back by this wonderful little slot canyon before heading back to Capitol Reef. I had slept in a Jeep Wrangler the night prior and had just done a 17 mile backpacking trip the day before that. I was pretty sore and tired by this time which made scrambling up the backside of this slot canyon even tougher. I did have high hopes for the canyon to be dry which meant I wouldn't have to wade through a mosquito filled corridor of stagnant water.
As I approached the mouth of the canyon, I quickly came to realize that it was flooded once again. The bright side was that instead of being 40 degrees outside like the last time, it was closer to 80, and instead of chest deep water, it only ended up being just over waist deep. My goal for this place was to climb to the higher part of the canyon which requires some careful chimneying up really slick sandstone. I had a few fractured bones in my hand so it made this process a little more difficult than it probably would have been otherwise.
